But in my distress I cried out to the Lord; yes, I cried to my God for help. He heard me from his sanctuary; my cry reached his ears. He opened the heavens and came down; dark storm clouds were beneath his feet. Mounted on a mighty angelic being, he flew, soaring on the wings of the wind. 2 Samuel 22:7,10-11
Thank you, Father, that when I pray you hear me and your heart is moved. Rescue me from temptation and people with evil motives. Be my rescue.
Every time I read this passage my heart trembles at the image of the sky splitting open and God, mounted on a heavenly being, flying to my defense. Certainly bad things do happen to good people and God doesn’t physically rescue us from every circumstance or make his presence known in such a dramatic way. But the truth that his Father’s heart is in tune with his children and he is working for our good, whether we see it or not, is a marvelous comfort. I’m encouraged that my words touch my Father’s heart and cause him to respond.
Do you believe that God hears your prayers and is moved to action by them? If not ask him to show you that he’s listening and help you pray with confidence.
