1 John 4:9-14
Jesus came to this earth to show us how much God loves us. He lives in us so that through us he can continue to show the world how much he loves them. Jesus was fully human and fully God. He completely understands what we go through and sacrificed his life so that we could live a life free of feeling bad or trapped by the wrong things we do (sins). God came as a baby because he loves you and me.
1. Can you think of a time when you have done something wrong? How did it make you feel?
2. Is it hard to believe that God sent Jesus to give his life so that you don’t have to live always feeling trapped by the things you have done wrong?
3. How does it make you feel that God loved you so much that he gave everything to save you and give you a new life where you aren’t trapped by sin?
Talk about what it means that Jesus was the sacrifice for our sins. Talk about how amazing it is that Jesus understands everything we go through. Share how you personally have experienced God’s love even though you do and have done things that are wrong.
Dear God, thank you for sending Jesus to sacrifice his life for the things that I do wrong. I don’t want to live trapped by sin. Help me to be filled with your love so that I can live in love and show your love to the people I meet every day. I love you. Amen.
A fun way to illustrate that God’s love and forgiveness never runs out. Take two empty cups, and turn on the kitchen sink. The water from the sink represents God’s love, which is never ending. Fill one cup with water from the sink, then pour some of that water into the other cup. Talk about how we run out of love if we aren’t continually spending time with God and being filled with His love, but when we are filled with God’s love, then we are able to share it with others.
