Last week I was driving and it was snowing. The kind of snow that sticks to everything in many inches and causes 10151943_10153892804240162_2036291402_ncar crashes. It was wet and cold and heavy and brought with it huge gusts of wind. In December, we would call this Christmas snow, but in April after experiencing a few 60 degree days I was over it. I wanted green grass, tulips and most of all sunshine. As I watched the big fluffy white flakes my mind was somewhere with a green blue ocean, palm trees and a very, very hot sun.

These thoughts led me to the fact that another Minnesota winter went by without me seeing the ocean and within myself I started to feel whiny. I turned it to God. Why did he make this beautiful earth if he wasn’t going to give me the funds, time, ability to travel it? Please tell me I am not the only one who battles these extremely selfish first world thoughts. And then the radio that had been playing in the back ground caught my attention. Chip Ingram through my speakers said that the only things that will endure is the Word of God and people. The. Only. Things. He proceeded to share about what the new heaven and new earth will truly be like. Beautiful. Vast. Perfect. With new things to discover, learn, see, experience. All will be perfect, including you and I and we will serve and worship the way we were originally created.

I was put in my place. Perspective given and received. This earth that we value so highly. These lives that we work so hard to build. These things that we save so carefully to purchase. They are nothing compared to what is waiting for us. All we see now, experience, think we need and want is a shadow, a dirtied picture of what is to come. What we will experience forever.

This week in the Allied Women Monday Minute Kari and I talk about not playing the comparing game. I truly believe that if could keep our perspective in check competition would be a nightmare in the past. God is in complete control. He wants our best. His whole plan in sending Jesus was to save us from this sin entrenched world. What we have waiting for us is the perfection we were originally intended for. And all that will last from here to there is God’s word and people.

What are you and I striving for today? Is it something that will last or an imperfect replacement for what God has for us? Whether I never leave Minnesota or whether I travel this broken world I want my satisfaction, my purpose, my heart, my passion, my peace, my everything to be centered and stable in Christ. Because that is the only place where truth resides.
